A very special evening full of secrets and surprises
Joseph Beuys once said, “I think art is the only political power, the only revolutionary power, the only power to free humankind from all repression.”
Beuys also created the term of the “Social Sculpture” a concept of art which in his understanding was able to transform society.
The social sculpture involves human activity that strives to structure and shape society or the environment.
The central idea behind this is, that the artist uses languages, thoughts, actions and objects in order to bring change to the current situation or open up human kind to new forms of society. Beuys believed in the power of human creativity he believed that art has the power for revolutionary change.
I can find all the aspects of the “Social Sculpture” in the concept of this wonderful exhibition. The curators created a great program including several events for the duration of the exhibition.
The exhibition brings people together, unite in the fight for freedom of speech and expression.
While I am writing this I must think of a speech, Julian Assange, did from the balcony of the Ecuador embassy on Dec. 20th 2012 and where he said:
”People often ask, "What can I do?" the answer is not so difficult.
Learn how the world works. Challenge the statements, actions and intentions of those who seek to control us behind the facades of democracy and monarchy.
Unite in common purpose and common principle to design, build, document, finance and defend.
Learn, challenge, act.
Now.”
And this is exactly what this exhibition does, it unites in a common purpose, and uses the power of art!
I encourage you to visit the exhibition, join the curated program, and:
LEARN; CHALLENGE; ACT; NOW
