German Foreign Minister Baerbock: Turning away from Julian Assange

The red line is crossed...long time ago, we need to free Julian now!

This is our first post for Assange Newspaper, and originally Bea and I planned to give a little inside about ourself, and about the art exhibition we plan this year for Julian Assange. But sometimes these days turn out different and there are more important things to share. We always said this exhibition we are working on, is not about us, it’s about Julian and his freedom.

Today we received disturbing news, regarding the German Governments position and we like to share this with you here, as we could not find any MSM media reports on this yet. We found this on a German Website Heise with the headline:

Foreign Minister Baerbock: Turning away from Julian Assange.

Before Ms. Baerbock (Green Party) was elected  into power as German Foreign Minister she stated the following at  German parliament watch, after she was ask about Julian Assange:

”due to serious violations of fundamental freedom rights of the European Convention on Human Rights in dealing with Julian Assange - above all against the prohibition of torture (Art. 3), against the right to liberty and security (Art. 5), against the right to a fair trial (Art 6) and against the right not to be punished without law (Article 7) - we join the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of 27 January 2020 and the appeal of the UN special envoy Nils Melzer and call for their immediate release by Julian Assange.

I must admit that at the time we all hoped, when she/her party is in the government, she will keep her promise. Of course none of us is so naive and beliefe that the promise of a Government Member means anything. But there was at least a tiny little bit of hope. This hope faded away with every day Ms. Baerbock was in power.

German Activist for Julian Assange did not stop to request her about her promise above, day by day. No reaction what’s or ever, from her. Totale silence or as I called it amnesia regarding her very clear statement before.

Now 2 weeks ago Mr Baerbock  and her office made the following statement after a request was put in, by Zaklin Nastic, spokesperson for the resort of human rights of the Left party and member of the German Parliament:

“The German government continues to follow the extradition process against Mr. Julian Assange very closely, as well as the publicly available reports on his health.

As far as the German government is aware, the extradition proceedings against Mr Assange are still ongoing. Mr Assange's defence has requested a review of the London High Court judgment of 10 December 2021 by the UK Supreme Court, which has not yet ruled on whether to accept that request.

The federal government has no reason to doubt the rule of law, the procedure and the approach of the British judiciary.

Ms Nastic was shocked about the answer she received, and further stated, that this is a fatal signal on press freedom, human rights as we did read on a report online by Telepolis.

We are outraged about this, and we say that the German Government and the Foreign office crossed a red line here. As we could not find any media outlet reporting about this yet, we see it as our duty to let you know here, to gain international attention  on this. There are still lots of politicians in the German “Bundestag” share our common position to fight for Julians release but this current  position of the German Government must become public.

We need to raise the awareness  on this.

We need  come together and realise that politcan´s  from all country’s around the world want to keep Julian locked up, because they fear when he is free he will coming after all of them.
