Belmarsh Live in Strasbourg
Artistic Expression and Its Impact at the Heart of Europe
Dear Supporters,
I'm thrilled to share the incredible journey we experienced in Strasbourg from October 10 to October 12, as Belmarsh Live took a powerful stand in front of the Council of Europe. Our mission was to raise awareness for Julian Assange, and it evolved into a captivating exploration of the intersection between art and activism.
Strasbourg, the heart of Europe, provided a unique platform for Belmarsh Live to showcase the profound influence of art in public spaces. In the backdrop of the Council of Europe, European Union institutions, and the European Court of Human Rights, the significance of our message was amplified. We were at the epicenter of decision-making and diplomacy, where the choices made have the potential to shape the course of an entire continent and beyond.
Art has an incredible power to connect with people on an emotional and visceral level, transcending language barriers. Our installation was thoughtfully placed in a highly visible, public space where passersby from diverse backgrounds often congregated. This accessibility allowed us to present the raw and emotional essence of the situation Julian faces. It led to countless meaningful conversations about the artistically immersive experience that is Belmarsh Live.
Visitors to our installation were moved by the power of art to convey complex emotions. The expressions on their faces as they stepped inside, engaged with the soundscapes from Belmarsh Prison, and contemplated the life-size replica of Julian's cell, were truly remarkable. It became evident that art can be a medium for not only sparking intellectual discussions but also invoking empathy and shared experiences.
MPs who visited us added their voices to the cause, highlighting the critical importance of upholding principles of justice, human rights, and press freedom. In this artistic journey, their statements were a harmonious addition to the powerful notes of resistance.
The engagement of the general public in Strasbourg was extraordinary. People passing by wanted to know more about Belmarsh Live, the art, and the cause it represents. Their curiosity transformed them into active participants, sharing their thoughts and joining our ever-growing movement.
While we eagerly anticipate forthcoming posts that delve into the impactful statements of the visiting MPs, we invite you to continue being part of our mission. Your support is indispensable in the fight for Julian's freedom and the promotion of justice and human rights.
Stay tuned for more updates about the artistic essence of Belmarsh Live and the profound connection between art, activism, and public spaces as catalysts for change.
We will share here in the upcoming days the statements of the MP´s visited us and support Julian.
Thank you for your steadfast support.
