”I was born in Tokio/Japan and grew up in Germany.
The history of both of my home countries is marked by denial of freedom of speech, massacre of minorities and attacks on neighboring countries in the name of fascist ideologies during the Second World War.
My grandpa Tentaro Fukuda was an artist like me. During world war I I he was forced to travel around China with the Japanese army. There he saw many things he could not talk about until his death. When he was in a Chinese village where it was quieter, he became friends with the inhabitants. They taught him a lot about Chinese art and calligraphy. Especially the adorable children have found their way to his heart.
Then the Japanese government provided color and brushes to the artists and
ordered: "Paint pictures that praise the war." Grandpa could only paint a sad, tired soldier.
Therefore I was aware, that freedom of speech, press freedom is a human right
you always have to fight for.
Julian Assange’s arrest is a thread for everyone’s press freedom. I participated in demonstrations and donated for his legal activities.
Hoping that we can build a world where freedom of speech is completely acknowledged and noone is forced to hide the truth.”
